I have a new favourite Twitter feed - Florida Man, "Real-life stories of the world's worst superhero." I spent a few days there 40 years ago, so I'm not exactly an expert on the state...
...but the northern half appears to be as Southern as Alabama or Mississippi, while the south is distinctly liberal and Hispanic - currently 23% of the population - and (unless it has changed a lot in the past four decades) the Florida Keys in the extreme south is a gay redoubt. Lots of New York Jews used to retire to Miami (it's losing its appeal, apparently, but 8.7% of Miami's population is Jewish), and, of course, it's heaving with British expats and holidaymakers. Melting Pot doesn't even begin to cover it. Take a vibrant medley of cultural influences, mix in a mountain of drugs, guns, money, poverty and muggy, brain-addling heat, and you get some seriously weird behaviour - which the Florida Man Twitter account celebrates.
