Splendid. She and I have the very same uncanny ability to hold a tune but I usually had the excuse of being several pints along the way after a game of rugby.
But how can you be sure the ensemble hadn't sunk a few backstage beforehand? Young people today...
I used to think I could hold a tune until two friends who I was on holiday with begged me to stop murdering "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Never really got over it.
I was suddenly reminded of the opening sequence of the Tina Turner biopic, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" [1993]where a tiny girl portraying Anna Mae Bullock gets thrown out of the choir for being too loud and boisterous. Also funny.
Shirley Bassey says that the choirmaster at her school had to move her further and further towards the back of the hall and ultimately outside it to balance her contribution with the rest of the choir's.
I thought this was seriously funny. Best laugh for a long time.
