I might have to revise my opinion of Gamal Abdel Nasser...

That was 1958.  Here - in an image which I find truly poignant - are three young women snapped in Kabul in the 1970s:

Here are some more:
Two medical students with a teacher, Kabul, 1962:
 Here's a more recent snap:

  1. Nasser as a Stand-up comic. Very interesting.

  2. I don't know about Egypt but "Breaking News" informs the world The Theory of Evolution will no longer be taught in Turkish highschool.
Remember you heard it here first-well almost.

  3. Or put a better way Turkey is to stop teaching evolution in high school. Whether or not this means Turkish high schools in Germany or elsewhere, I have no idea.

    1. I'm pretty sure Germany and Sweden will comply and ban the teaching of evolution in all schools. Not to do so would be culturally arrogant.

  4. "They" seem to have turned away from what we used to think of as progress. I don't think it's any coincidence that a huge faction of the West's now left-leaning establishment and our cognoscenti have too. Cultural relativism and all that...traditional bourgeois and old-liberal values are no longer, it seems, to be aspired
    to.

    1. Not only aren't we supposed to aspire to them, or to encourage others to adopt them - we must actually apologise for them. To suggest our values are somehow superior to those espoused by primitive death-cultists would be grossly insensitive. Prosperity, knowledge , science, culture and rationality are all inherently racist, and must be done away with.

  5. In order to understand Egypt's threadbare elite , of which Nasser as an army officer, was part, it would help to read Robert Graves' "Goodbye To All That".

In that book we learn, inter alia, about the difficulties encountered by RG in the seemingly impossible task of turning Egyptian university students into the type of candidates who could actually pass examinations.

Racism ? I reported Mr Graves immediately but apparently hit a dead end.
