That impossible Tottenham goal... even in slow motion, it defies belief.

  1. It took me a few views to figure out what he had done (I had the sound down)....sweeeeet.

For some satanic reason...the Boy has been insisting that we sit down on Thursday night and watch SEC women's soccer. Riveting match this week between the Lady Auburn Tigers and the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs.

    1. Is your boy punishing you for something? Mind you, I suppose it's better tham having a son who falls into an instant coma the moment sport is mentioned, like mine does (though, for some odd reason, he likes snooker and darts - but I'm not sure they count as sport). Here the papers and the TV companies have got sneaky when it comes to women's soccer: the papers do match reports with headlines along the lines of "Manchester United Thrash Chelsea" and it's only when you get to the third paragraph your confusion lifts as you realise they're talking about the female version of the game. Sky does the same, putting "Arsenal v. Tottenham" on its EPG - and it's only after you press select you realise you've been conned. Gently nudge him towards manly (well, some of it is) Premier League soccer - there was a thriller between Chelsea and Man U this afternoon, which saw the latter snatch a last-minute equaliser at home thanks to Robin Van Persie, who's been in the doldrums of late. Better yet, wait till the New Year, when, with any luck, manager Van Gaal will have sorted out his crappy defence.

There was an actual NFL match at Wembley this afternoon (no doubt shown on US TV) but I had to miss it because it clashed with the soccer and two tennis finals. Sorry!

Don't the soccer women in your state mind being referred to as bulldogs??? Tigers is okay, I suppose.

    2. Hell no...they are Bulldogs and proud of it. The Sister is one and she's got the fleas to prove it.

The SEC has it's own television network. It's dominated by football of course but, the other sports get an airing as well. So, while we're watching games or reruns of games, or the Paul Finebaum show, they're constantly pushing "Thursday Night Soccer"...women's soccer it turns out. He don't care that it's women. He likes the ladies volleyball too.

Truth be told the women's soccer teams probably have better athletes than the men's game around here. Though I have recently been told by someone from Dallas, that Jackson is one of the best cities in the South for club football. I had no idea but...there you are. We've talked before about the Mapp kid from my neighborhood that played in the EPL.

He likes soccer alright but, the Boy is obsessed with SEC football. My work is done.

There is a lot of NFL talk about putting a team in England...London I reckon. I know it was Atlanta and Detroit that played today but you know I don't pay much attention to the professionals.

  2. No problem with the ladies practising that kind of cross-leg trick shot. I can't see how the boys can have a go at it without inflicting serious damage to the nadgers.

    1. Are you suggesting foreign players aren't as well appointed in the shorts department as the home-grown variety, Big Ron? It was that sort of casuall racist remark that got you fired, wasn't it? Tread cautiously, my son. (Mind you, an English player would only attempt that sort of manoeuvre because he'd got himself in a dreadful muddle.)

  3. I speak as I find, Scott. If the boys put in a shift early doors, fair enough but they've got to give 110% before trying any of the fancy dan stuff like your Lamelas. As I see it, I'm sure he's a good lad but if he's whacked it with his right foot rather than his left, it still goes somewhere near the goal and there's 0% chance of nadger issues because he's not gone and crossed his legs at high velocity. It's plain and simple at this moment in time going forward.

    1. I look forward to the day when a manager tells us his main striker is out for six weeks with "nadger issues".
