If you believe in democracy, pluralism and the rule of law, boycott liberal fascist Roger Waters

So the erstwhile Pink Floyder has once more been masturbating himself into a frenzy of self-righteous hatred against the only genuine democracy in the Middle East. Waters has called on his fellow-musicians not to perform in Israel, which is, apparently, an apartheid state. The former Floydian appears to be relaxed about what Arab fascists on both sides are up to in Syria. The victimisation of Coptic Christians in Egypt – not to mention the wholesale sexual abuse of women of all ages there by devout followers of the religion of peace – doesn’t seem to make him angry. The horrible, repressive viciousness of Iran’s hate-filled theocratic dictatorship and its determination to arm itself with nuclear weapons with which to wipe out Jews seems to be a matter of little concern to the glum rock star.

What really, really upsets old misery-guts, evidently, is Israel’s unreasonable determination to protect itself against people who hate Jews and want to slaughter them. Last time I looked, Israel wasn’t an “apartheid” state. The countries in the region that practice genuine apartheid (based either on race or religion or tribe or a toxic mixture of all three) are all Islamic Arab countries (yes, I know Iranians aren’t Arabs – but you know what I mean).

I have no idea if Waters is an anti-Semite (of course, I’m sure his habit of unleashing a huge pig-shaped balloon with a prominent Star of David on it at his concerts is just a bit of harmless, chucklesome fun – Rog looks like someone who enjoys loonin’ about). Maybe he found himself carved up by some Jews in his early days in the music business, where I believe they used to be quite prominent. Maybe his heart does genuinely bleed for Palestinians. In which case, his efforts might more usefully be directed at those Arab countries that could solve the Palestinian “problem” in any number of ways (for instance, by not continually calling for Israel to be wiped off the map and by not funding terrorist attacks against and by not supplying rockets to terrorist organisation, Hamas – that might  be a good start). But, of course, the point of these highly public displays of malign pseudo-compassion aren’t anything to do with Palestinians. It works like this:

Israel = Jews = America = Democracy = Freedom

And, let’s face it, there’s nothing Arab leaders hate more than freedom! Of course, their nihilistic left-wing Western supporters think they themselves should be allowed to do and say whatever takes their fancy – they just don’t see why the rest of us unenlightened little losers should be allowed to vote for political parties they don’t approve of, which in turn have a maddening habit of supporting countries lefties don’t approve of (it goes without saying that these selective compassion-mongers all loathe their own countries – their brand of malignant treachery fundamentally stems from self-hatred).

One of the strange things about Roger Waters urging Israelis to stop being so intransigent and to turn the other cheek to those who wish them dead is that – in his professional life, at least - he doesn’t really seem to be the forgiving type: in fact, his behaviour suggests he is "The Incredible Sulk" of popular music. He left Pink Floyd in 1985, took the rest of the band to court, and didn’t appear on stage with Pink Floyd for 18 years. I’m not sure I’d be taking advice on burying hatchets from this guy.

Anyway, I hope you’ll join me in pledging to boycott all events involving Roger Waters and all the other musicians who have given their tacit support to fascist regimes by telling outrageous lies about Israel. I admit that I won’t find this a great hardship, especially in the case of Waters – I’ve never heard anything he’s done since leaving Pink Floyd; everything the band produced after Syd Barrett fried his brain has struck me as the worst sort of bombastic, self-regarding pretentious rubbish; and the last time I attended a concert involving Waters was Pink Floyd’s notable “Games for May” happening at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 12th May, 1967  (lava lamp-style light displays, bubbles galore, and hippy chicks handing out flowers – lots of flowers). I was fourteen, so it all seemed jolly exciting.

Waters claims to have persuaded Stevie Wonder to cancel a fundraising concert from the Israeli Defence Forces last year. So if you like the idea of more dead Jews, do go on attending Roger’s concerts and buying his music – you know he’ll spend the profits on a cause you can really get behind.

Finally, there’s one thing that’s been puzzling me. After attacking the BBC’s sensible decision to excise faux-cockney violinist Nigel Kennedy’s anti-Israel outburst at a Proms concert from future broadcasts of the event as “censorship”, Waters added: “Time to stick my head above the parapet again, alongside my brother, Nigel Kennedy, where it belongs. And by the way, Nigel, great respect man.”

I would never have guessed the two were siblings! They certainly don’t look much like each other. Anyway, cool. Man!

  1. Pink Floyd continued to record after Syd Barrett left?

    I had no idea.
