Obama’s latest remarks about the Trayvon Martin shooting are remarkably dishonest – even by his lamentable standards

A quick glance at the liberal MSM tells us that Barack Obama’s remarks to the White House Press Corps yesterday were magisterial, moving, thoughtful and presidential. In fact, they were mendacious, trite, shallow, logically confused, mawkish, unhelpful and deeply, deeply depressing. The black race in America will continue to top every statistic relating to social, economic and educational failure until left-wing Americans realise that it’s liberal-left attitudes and actions – not white racism - that have condemned blacks to decades of depressing and potentially irreversible underachievement.

As I’ve mentioned many times on this blog, the lot of American blacks compared to whites improved across the board between the end of World War II and the early 1960s – educational achievements, employments rates, births in wedlock, crime rates, average income etc. Then Lyndon Johnson decided that the only way to eradicate the disparity that still existed between blacks and whites was to set up lots of government agencies and programmes and powerhouse billions of taxpayer dollars at black communities. Within a few short years, America’s cities were being torched by the grateful recipients of all this official largesse, and black employment rates, educational standards and average income were plummeting, stable black family life had been effectively destroyed, and black crime rates had soared beyond the stratosphere.

Left-wingers did all that – not right-wingers. People who considered themselves enemies of racism did all that – racists had nothing to do with it. It is one of the most appalling ironies of this era that white, right-wing racists have contributed so little to the destruction of the black race in America. To go on blaming Southern rednecks or slavery or the racism that Obama is convinced lurks in the heart of white America is cowardly and dishonest and ensures that nothing will improve.

As usual, the speech is crammed with nonsense. There’s a whole section about how blacks feel bad when whites act nervously around them in certain situations (as if those whites are motivated by a desire to offend rather than out of reasonable fear). And then there’s a lot of guff about blacks interpreting the Zimmerman acquittal in the context of their “history” (i.e. slavery, racism, discrimination etc.) – when the advice he should be giving them is “well, don’t!” And then there’s a reference to Eric Holder “reviewing what happened down there” – i.e. Zimmerman was obviously guilty, but Florida has some sneaky, discriminatory law that got the racist, murdering SOB off the hook.

Slavery and discrimination inevitably also get top billing in the “crime” section (my comments in italics):

Now, this isn't to say that the African American community is naïve about the fact that African American young men are disproportionately involved in the criminal justice system… 

(which makes it sound as if there are too many black judges and cops, rather than that they commit a frighteningly large proportion of crimes)

They understand that some of the violence that takes place in poor black neighbourhoods around the country is born out of a very violent past in this country, and that the poverty and dysfunction that we see in those communities can be traced to a very difficult history.

And so the fact that sometimes that’s unacknowledged adds to the frustration. And the fact that a lot of African American boys are painted with a broad brush and the excuse is given, well, there are these statistics out there that show that African American boys are more violent -- using that as an excuse to then see sons treated differently causes pain. 

(Huh? What’s all this “broad brush nonsense? Is it now forbidden to generalise from a mass of particular instances? And what’s all this rubbish about “these statistics out there” giving an “excuse” for claiming that young blacks are proportionately more violent than young whites? The statistics demonstrate that they are – the word ”excuse” suggests the statistics are untrue, which they obviously aren’t, because liberals have a panic attack whenever they’re mentioned. Of course, like all left-wingers, what Obama really wants is for us ignore the evidence, because it doesn’t fit his preferred version of reality.)

To be fair, Obama does admit that, statistically, Trayvon Martin was far more likely to have been killed by another young black. And he has the grace to admit to doubts about “the prospects of some brand-new federal program” making a difference. He also dismisses calls for him to “convene a conversation on race” (which just means liberals and members of their pet victim group screaming abuse at white “bigots” and droning on about the legacy of slavery, which ended in 1865). But then the President spoils it all by spouting this dreadful, incoherent tosh:

…I do recognize that as president, I’ve got some convening power. And there are a lot of good programs that are being done across the country on this front. And for us to be able to gather together business leaders and local elected officials and clergy and celebrities and athletes and figure out how are we doing a better job helping young African-American men feel that they’re a full part of this society and that -- and that they’ve got pathways and avenues to succeed -- you know, I think that would be a pretty good outcome from what was obviously a tragic situation. And we’re going to spend some time working on that and thinking about that.

So, let me get this straight. There’s to be no national ”conversation” about race involving ordinary people (after all, what do they know?). Instead, Barry’s going to get busy “convening” key members of the enlightened liberal elite (including all his Pallywood buddies) to agree that black failure is all the fault of creepy-ass Southern crackers. And if the resulting blether-fest doesn't wind up producing "some brand-new federal program" and yet more tax dollars being wasted in ghettoes, I'll eat my blog.

There are a huge number of extremely successful American blacks – hell, there’s even one in the White House! Young blacks don’t lack role models. And there are plenty of “pathways and avenues of success” open to blacks. It’s just that – as in this country – there’s a vast army of left-wing race-industry hustlers, politicians, government agency workers, teachers, journalists, movie stars, “community leaders” and liberal clergy who’ll do anything but tell those blacks who “don’t feel they’re a full part of this society” that maybe they should try to pass some exams, get a job, take responsibility for the kids they father, stay off drugs, keep away from gangs, and generally try to lead law-abiding, industrious, productive, useful lives. If you keep telling people they’re helpless victims of discrimination and if, every time they screw up, you tell them that it’s not their fault, what’d the likelihood of them overcoming obstacles and succeeding at anything?

If Obama seriously wants to help blacks, I suggest he gets the government and its army of "experts" off their backs, and leaves it to them to sort themselves out. Unlike most liberals, I don't believe blacks are inherently useless, so I reckon they'd do a pretty good job of helping themselves. Why don't we give them a chance?
