Singer Sayaka Alessandra should be an international superstar

I mean, Lordy!

Tiny, 27 year-old Sayaka is half-Japanese, half-Sicilian, and her degree course at The American University in Rome seems to have left her with a near-flawless American accent when it comes to singing.

I first saw her on You Tube a couple of years ago, and have rather been expecting her to burst onto television here at some stage - but she doesn't even seem to have made a splash in Italy, where she lives.

As well as rock 'n' roll, she does torch songs and country numbers - and I reckon she'd have 'em awhoopin' and ahollerin' at the Grand Ole Opry - unless the audience has been invaded by the cowboy community's Brokeback Mountain tendency.

Here she is singing "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay", apparently in her kitchen:

Elvis is her main man, and here she does a creditable solo version of "Baby Let's Play House":

Maybe she's been born at the wrong time - but could there ever a wrong time for such a rare combination of beauty and talent?

I'll leave you with the performance of Bobby Darin's "Dream Lover" that first caught my eye:
