What’s odd about our new-found determination to treat every set of circumstances we confront as entirely unique and novel is that you’d think the natural human response would be to find similar instances in the past so that you could examine what they did back then and learn from it. But no, the current preference is to ignore the past completely and instead take an almighty punt based on no evidence whatsoever and keep your fingers crossed. It’s very teenagery – “You don’t understand – it’s not like it was in your day!” Politicians, in particular, are always thrilled by the thought that they are facing challenges the like of which have never been faced by anyone ever in the whole of human history. It allows them the giddy prospect of ripping up the rulebook and doing whatever they want to us in order to put it right.

Gordon Brown espousing liberty – Barack Obama espousing the private enterprise system – David Cameron espousing conservatism… they all sound like Stalin espousing democracy.
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 - 11:31 AMScott Gronmarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15118026157459333174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215553202978284468.post-69721088509532031872011-10-11T22:05:50.233+01:002011-10-11T22:05:50.233+01:00novel ... nouvel ... new ... new world ...
In his...novel ... nouvel ... new ... new world ...

In his world-famous in his own household paper on the use of the "new world" strategy, http://dematerialisedid.com/BCSL/New.html , someone points out that the purveyors of this nonsense must believe that history begins today and we were all born yesterday.

Why do the likes of Governor Perdue and CNN believe so readily that we are all living in a new world? Do they find the old world, the real world, the world in which we continue to live, too difficult to understand? Do they dislike their fellow man? Or themselves? So much that they wish they and everything else could be different? Is it a childish belief in magic? With one bound they were free?

This is one for Clinical Psychologist.
Wednesday, October 5, 2011 - 10:33 AMDMnoreply@blogger.com
